instead of relying on a smartphone, i could just use separate devices for everything: camera, music player, feature phone, etc

but charging all that stuff and carrying it around doesn't feel right, i'm not ready for that kind of change...

with a set of essential apps works the best for me for now

    @hi Well, yeah, but that's how we did it back in the days, right?
    I had Nokia 3310 and a huge CD player in its own bag stuffed with like a dozen CDs. This bag had a whole system of straps, so you couldn't just TAKE the player, you had to EQUIP it. Only later I bought a tiny mp3 player that had crazy 256 MB of memory.

      @chesheer @hi we did many things differently back in the days, drank mercury, for example. As for dumbphones - just don't scroll reels indefinitely, and any phone is a dumbphone then.

        for me modern smartphones are too complex, i'd like to understand what my hardware and software is doing.

        for example, with openbsd i have much better understanding of all processes, while with macos i can't even tell what some processes are about...

          History
