@GrapheneOS @attilax @LearnToLivePrivate @RustRaven @jmoupah @Yrrussaj @sebsauvage @jolla Hey Graphene OS folks.
First, it's really great that you guys have created a security focused deGoogled Android operating system.
Given the problems of American big tech, I applaud you for creating an alternative.
So full credit where credit is due.
That being said, constantly badmouthing every other non-Apple and non-Google smartphone maker and operating system is not a good look.
And jumping into any thread on Mastodon where there's a mention of another alternative smartphone maker or OS to badmouth them is not a good look.
You say Jolla is no good. SailfishOS is no good. Fairphone is no good. Murena is no good. CalyxOS is no good. Dumbphones are no good.
I'd imagine you'd probably win more people over if you talked more about why people should choose Graphene instead why they shouldn't choose one of the others.
Because right now, there are tradeoffs with every mobile OS.
That includes Graphene.
For example, there are people for whom limiting their exposure to Google and Apple is more important than choosing the most locked down option available.
For such people, needing to buy a Google Pixel phone to run Graphene is a massive negative.
That's even if the Google Pixel is the best hardware from a security perspective.
And in that case, yeah there are other options that may be a better fit for those people.
There's another issue.
There seems to be many Reddit threads and YouTube videos and blogs out there from people who were enthusiastic about Graphene, but have soured on it.
And the funny thing is there's a pattern to it. "Cult-like" and "toxic" seems to be phrases that tend to be used a lot.
I've also noticed a recurring pattern you put for why the other alternatives are bad is because people connected with those businesses or companies badmouth Graphene.
It seems to me like Graphene constantly bags those other projects. When anyone connected with those projects responds, that response is presented by you guys as evidence of bullying and harassment, without that context.
And the recurring line about how people should just stick with iOS or Google Android if they don't choose Graphene? Just shameful. And completely misses the point of why some people are looking for alternative platforms in the first place.
And the more people who choose an alternative OS, the more normal it becomes to do it, which ultimately leads to more people looking at alternatives like Graphene.

@GrapheneOS I've been using GrapheneOS for over a year now, and I'm throughly satisfied with it.
However I have serious concerns about the way the Motorola partnership announcement is being handled so far.
Do you plan on addressing the concerns raised by forum users about the scope of this partnership, whether hardware audits will be performed, and how the GrapheneOS Foundation can assure its users that Motorola is acting with good intentions?
@GrapheneOS @maddy unless Motorola were to offer #GrapheneOS on all their current devices, that's easy to workaround.
Given that they sell sub - €250 devices brand new without any SIM- or Net-Lock, they'll obviously only gonna care about their high-end flagships that are 4-digits.
@GrapheneOS / #GrapheneOS partnering with #AntiRepairDesign - Fans of #Motorola who literally argue against #LongTermSupport of their devices in defiance to @EUCommission standards are just bad.

Naively I'm stuck at installing apps 😬
E.g. Signal isn't in the GrapheneOS store and using the Google Play store requires me to log in.
I liked the e/os way to offer an anonymous Play store (I understand that there are security implications with this)
It's just a naive first use impression
And good to know when you recommend GrapheneOS to non-technical users
It's probably late in the day to ask this, but does anyone running @GrapheneOS have recs on how to best capture a photo of tonight's eclipse with their camera app?

Motorola announced a partnership with #GrapheneOS Foundation:
https://motorolanews.com/motorola-three-new-b2b-solutions-at-mwc-2026/ (thanks @llas for the pointer).
Great to see that you will be able to buy a new phone with a #FreeSoftware #OpenSource #Android ROM pre-installed from such a big brand.
All the best to @GrapheneOS for the next steps in this! #FreeYourAndroid
@llas People pointed out that it is not clear from the announcement if you could buy Motorola phones with pre-installed #GrapheneOS or if they Motorola just supports it and takes some patches.
Maybe @GrapheneOS can shed some light on this?
@MinistryOfGoodIdeas This is really disappointing from @GrapheneOS because of all the #manufacturers, #Motorola literally fights #EU standards for #LongTermSupport of #firmware with tooth and nail...
I guess #GrapheneOS need an #EgoCheck and instead #LineageOS and other #ROM|s really need to up their game...
very cool news!💙
i'm shopping for my next phone & looking for an OS OS - Open Source Operating System. The article doesn't mention when the GrapheneOS Motorola phones come out
When will they be on the market?
i have the incredible LG ThinQ Dual Screen (technically tri-screen) which is hands down the coolest phone EVER, but LG stopped making phones
i'd like to see the foldable #Motorola in #GrapheneOS

Congratulations on the partnership. I am worried about #Motorola being a #China -based company, though... they're known for inserting spyware. This would be a great opportunity for China to insert spyware in supposedly secure phones.
Nonetheless, I'm excited to see #GrapheneOS increase in relevance. I hope they go far.

roman boostedWe're happy to announce a long-term partnership with Motorola. We're collaborating on future devices meeting our privacy and security standards with official GrapheneOS support.

This could be a gamechanger. Congratulations to @GrapheneOS, fingers crossed this works out well!
Wer digitale Selbstbestimmung ernst nimmt, braucht Alternativen. GrapheneOS ist eine davon – mit Sandbox für Google-Dienste und ohne den üblichen Datenhunger. Noch dazu hochsicher und datenschutzfreundlich.
