#Mozilla creates the #AI slopware client and yet they don't
even have a working #Usenet client for #Android by reusing
#Thunderbird's or #k9-mail's code.
The only usable one for Android (with a keyboard, with
touch input you get tired with ease) it's the
old #Emacs with the #GNU's client.

Remember? "Sideloading" is here to stay, and won't go away, they said? Don't be afraid, they said? Something something "we heard you"? Suuuure! Who would ever doubt it!

Attached the copy of a mail developers with apps in the PlayStore CURRENTLY receive. Please, read the text in the red box carefully:

"Apps not registered by September 2026 WILL NO LONGER BE INSTALLABLE ON CERTIFIED ANDROID DEVICES in select countries."

See an exception there? I don't.

Ich bin dem offiziellen GrapheneOS-Konto gerade entfolgt – nicht, weil ich das Projekt nicht schätze. Im Gegenteil: GrapheneOS ist im Bereich mobiler Sicherheit/Privacy weiterhin die beste Option.

Was mich stört, sind die ständigen Seitenhiebe auf /e/OS, CalyxOS und andere Custom-ROMs - auch wenn die Kritik völlig legitim ist. Aber ich folge dem Account, um etwas über GrapheneOS zu lesen, nicht um regelmäßig zu erfahren, was andere in den Sand setzen. Wer ein starkes Projekt hat, sollte es für sich sprechen lassen.

Forgive my kvetching, but it drives me nuts that #AOSP-based #Android OSes always treat hyphenated words as words.

For example, if you type in "apple-cart," you get a red squiggly underline and it tries to recommend replacing it with "apricot" or something. The only way around it is to add every. single. hyphenated. word. you. use. into the dictionary. 😮‍💨

It's been a constant, daily annoyance for the past five and a half years, and the only fix is to install something like GBoard and use its spelling correction engine or whatever you call it, and I'd rather not.

I've experienced it on #CalyxOS and #IodéOS, but I don't recall if #GrapheneOS has the same issue, because I only tried it briefly.

it has the best user interface: command line interface ❤️

• i can ssh into a phone
• i can rsync whatever i want
• i can replace all the apps with just a #shell script :)

Does anyone know if there are any #eInk-based phones with unlocked bootloaders you could install something like #LineageOS on?

That would be a crazy cool device to have, but I wouldn't be willing to put up with the typical #Android shenanigans.

Actually... is there something that provides drop-in replacements for Google Play Services?
Like, rendering a map from OSM instead of Google Maps, rerouting push stuff to UnifiedPush, that sorta thing?

Note: I am NOT looking for something a developer has to implement into their apps, but something an end user can install that pretends to be Google Play Services and provides non-Google replacements to make apps happy that otherwise "need" the Google stuff.

#Android has this feature where you can use sounds from other apps, like music in Spotify, as the sound of any alarm you set. Overall this is a sweet feature, but I encountered a bizarre bug with it late last night.

I had a silent alarm set for 11pm, to do a thing right before going to bed. That worked as planned, but at 11:35pm, my phone started playing the alarm song, of its own volition. It has to be related to the alarm function because it's not a song I play on its own ever.

I recently installed GrapheneOS on a Pixel 6. Their website and resources were great. I highly recommend.

In fact, I will soon be buying another used Pixel phone to convert to Graphene OS.

There are at least a dozen people spending at least several hours attacking GrapheneOS across platforms on a daily basis. It's a very strange situation. How do these people have so much time and dedication to keep making posts across platforms attacking us? It's relentless.
