The iPhone 17 Pro Max battery life is quite good.
Unplugged at 7, used for some hours, it’s still at 83% (at 22:35)

Impressive. The Pixel 9 Pro XL doesn’t even come close to that.

    requirements:

    • play audio and video from local storage
    • play all files from one directory one by one
    • play in the background when phone is locked

How is this an actual UI in an operating system shipped to millions of people‽

If anyone knows how to turn off the stupid banana when viewing images in the Messages app on Android I'd love to know.

**Edit:** Trying the Right Messages app as a replacement for Google Messages.

A screenshot of the UI for viewing a photo received in the Android messages app. Instead of showing the photo full width it's shrunk slightly and there is a banana emoji in the bottom left corner. The banana is ostensibly for "remixing" the photo, something I never want to do.

There is no reason why Cloud Defenses' QR-code-to-prove-you-are-human, mechanism, couldn't have been rolled out as an open standard through a standards body. So that you know, folks had a chance in hell, of re-implementing it in a sane way for other devices and ecosystems.

BUT either through the laziness born of being a monopoly, or active maliciousness born from wanting to further secure their monopoly; or some combination, here we are.

this is insanely impressive work, and i don’t think i’ve ever seen people talk about it.

lots of us remember Broderbund’s Living Books series from the 90s - like Just Grandma & Me or Arthur’s Teacher Trouble. the cartooning was exquisitely well done, and the voice work was top notch.

they completely disappeared in the late 90s because they were built for 16-bit Win 3.1, and compatibility problems only got worse with every revision of Windows into the 32-bit era

apparently back in 2010, one of the original managers from the Living Books team hired several programmers who had built the runtime. they either had access to the source (likely) or reversed it, bought the rights back from the holders, and released 32 and 64 bit iOS and Android editions of the Living Books titles with tap support and a nice launcher.

this is really, really well done. the art and sound have aged very well despite not having any remastering.

it’s called Wanderful Interactive Storybooks on the play and apple stores. there is a free version with samples from 7 books.

Alt...A screencap of a minute of a Wanderful Interactive Storybooks running in iOS. It shows a bird talking about how to navigate through the interface. The player then chooses The Berenstain Bears Get in a Fight, and a female voice begins narrating the first page of the book. It is colourful and animated.
