Today's @pixel_dailies prompt was "motion", and I went to an arcade tonight for the first time in ages, and even my small kids (3 and 6) loved it.

I've been working on Pixel Room Creator this week. Here are some half-finished assets that will be in the 1.1 update. I will create some more when I have time. Currently aiming at getting the update done for the one year anniversary, June 1.

Added a toolbar system to allow you to switch between items without having to open the inventory again.

Do I know any #artists on fedi that might have a pack of low-color or b/w #pixelArt icons I could pick up for a friend of mine who's looking to #getFediHired and spice up her resume?
Hard at work on polishing things up!
Btw, did you know that this game just got its page uploaded on Steam?

March I will be posting a batch of updates that will consist of individual images that I couldn't fit in under a specific topic or name.
I'm starting with the winning entry of the Amiga Magazin Color Cycling Contest, where I finally found a version with correct colors that allowed me to recreate the color cycling animation.

this shit is ai-generated slop
calling this out because they only mention the AI thing in their about page. i wouldn't have said anything if not for the fact that it strolled across my timeline from the #pixelart tag, and i checked the site because it seemed cool.
FreePixel is a curated library of AI-generated pixel art assets, designed specifically for game developers and creative projects. Every asset in the vault has been generated using specialized AI tools for creating high-quality pixel art sprites, tilesets, characters, and UI elements.
fuck this shit. fuck this slop garbage and fuck the people trying to make money off it. oh yeah i didn't mention, the site is a bait and switch. the pixel art isn't free, you need to pay "credits". for now the credits come from daily lootboxes alone, and you can guarantee they'll start letting you buy them soon.
they made a gambling site for slop. and they know it's gambling too, because the "art" they list has a rarity rating. they slopped out some images, assigned them a rarity score, and put them in a fucking slot machine. they say they want to make pixel art "accessible" (destroy every ai bro who says that word) but how does a gambling machine do that? they're not even pretending. just lying.
fuck this shit.

Today's @pixel_dailies prompt was "dome", and I looked at a lot of Biosphere 2 pics before deciding it wasn't really a dome, and instead pixelling the Climatron dome from the Missouri Botanical Gardens in St. Louis.
Was able to get some decent results out of Blender again for pixel-art-ish workflows.
I wanted a DIP packaged CPU in a not quite 2:1 isometric perspective, and i had no idea how to tackle the pins, so rendering is a great way to cheat.
Although for this chip, I pretty much just had it render the outline and the text, and colored everything else myself - it's heavily retouched, the pins were all redrawn, but sometimes you just need a good reference!
Today's @pixel_dailies prompt was "yearning", and it's #ShrimpSunday, so we gotta talk about it. The shrimps, they yearn for the mines.
Another month down! This month's crop of @pixel_dailies prompts had some real bangers in it, and it netted me some new favorite pieces for sure.
Today's @pixel_dailies prompt was "weirdness", which initially threw me for a loop. Then I remembered Geoff Peterson, the robot skeleton sidekick for Craig Ferguson's Late Late Show. Built by Grant Imahara of the Mythbusters (RIV), he was simply perfect.
As Geoff would say, "Balls."
Okay, it's out.
Lena is a handmade framework for making tiny games with palette graphics.
It's software-rendered, cross-platform and comes with constraints that challenge your creativity without limiting your game's size and scope. It comes with batteries-included palette graphics, some novel palette-blending and drawing effects, a simple audio interface, text rendering, and loaders and decoders for assets. It also compiles and runs on:
🪟 Windows (Native)
🍏 macOS (Native)
🐧 Linux (via SDL3)
😖 WebAssembly (Native)
The core functionality of Lena is implemented from scratch in almost exactly 2,000 lines of Odin, and while I designed it as a fun little game jam framework for myself, I hope it can also serve as an interesting learning tool for people looking to delve deeper into low-level system and engine programming for video games.

I'm releasing this as a version v0.0.0 on GitHub right now, with the hope of getting some feedback before declaring a truly API-stable 1.0.0 release.
