I condsider #smallweb/#smolweb to largely be document-only based and deferring to the user's visualization preferences and not requiring persistent data (i.e. cookies, localdata, etc). So pure HTML qualifies if it works 100% without CSS or JS enabled. Or #gopher & #gemini qualify.

Regardless, it doesn't necessarily *exclude* corporate websites or gopher-spaces or gemini-capsules, but very few corporations are interested in participating in a space where they can't control the experience/branding/tracking. So they *could* be part of the smolweb, but choose not to.

At least that's my thoughts on the matter 😆

I've struggled a bit with various ideas and haven't come up with anything 100% satisfactory. So at the moment:

• some stuff I don't care about the ingestion, just the load it puts on my server, so static sites with small files helps ameliorate that

• some stuff is really mostly for me, in which case I tend to hand-share it with folks who are interested

• it feels like the web is the major hub of scraping activity, so I've considered a non-web distribution method like setting up an NNTP server or mailing-list or source-code repo accessible via #gopher or #gemini

• finally, putting in explicit license terms at least gives you some teeth if you *do* find that your code was incorporated into a training dataset against your explicit licensing, but that might also prevent such a license from being OSI-approved¹.
